Not Our Grandfather's Writers
I really appreciated our speaker, Petrea Burchard, at our last meeting. She made a lot of very good points in creating a blog, most importantly in my book, keeping it professional. The Kogi BBQ trucks (kogibbq.com) have made the most of the web and twittering and blogging in raising some good buzz about themselves (not to mention some awesome food), but sometimes it can be so disjointed.
Also very heartening was the audience participation at the meeting. Petrea knew a lot, but the group kicked in some more info to round out the presentation. This is the kind of community effort I hope to see when we raise our website to the next level. We will have an AWG forum so our members can easily communicate with each other.
So what are you going to blog about? For me it will be cemeteries. I love those last tributes some pay to themselves or others. One of the first sites I will explore and share is the Rosedale Cemetery in Los Angeles. It was the final resting place for a lot of old money people in the beginning of the last century. And they did not want to be forgotten. It will be up soon.
